Type of bike

It has taken me a long time to figure out what kind of E-bike would be right for me this time. I originally thought something in the lines of the kind or touring bike similar to the Cannondale I had. However I have thought more and more and not totally made my mind up yet. Here is just some of my thoughts of the possible bike types for me.

E-touring bikes like the Specialized Turbo Vado , Focus Aventura2, Cube Katmandu or similar. These have the same engines as their MTB cousins and relatively big batteries from 500Wh to 700+ Wh. These bikes are kind of heavy but then they are fully equipped. Easy to use panniers one issue is that it is hard to get to test ride these as due the current Covid situations most bikes have been sold and new ones are not coming in anytime soon.

E-Road bikes have smaller engines and smaller batteries but at the same time they are way lighter than touring bikes and way faster than touring bikes. One big issue is that their tyre clearance is not very big and I don’t think they will make a good overall bike as my bike needs to be able to go to dirt roads and to icy surfaces. Ice can be tricky here in Finland as if it rains sleet or soft snow then folks walk and ride on that - weather cools and all that stuff freezes. It is not a nice surface to ride on the road tyres for sure.

Before I started to look at the new bikes I did not know about the new bike at all.
The Gravel Bike. It starts to look to me that an E-Gravel bike is the one that I will start to seriously look for now. They are closer to the road bike then the touring bike, yet with bigger tyre clearance and more relaxed geometry then its road cousin. Some of them can be fitted with racks, but I will also be looking into the bikepacking gear for options of moving stuff. Most E-Gravel bikes come with road like engines and smaller batteries to keep the overall weight of the bike lower however at least Cannodale has one with Bosch Gen 4 MTB engine and 500Wh battery.
